The Rant.

Sorry I have not been posting in a while, it is just that I wanted my teacher to mark my assignments. Life is doing well, and politics is coming through. But, why are students not following the rules? Why do they ignore assignments? The answer is ridiculous. It is because they do not like homework and believing that they can get away with puberty, they ignore homework. The other classmates may have parents who let them get away with anything which in my humble opinion, could lead to an increase on crime. So, if you do your schoolwork/homework, you get a better job, life and a good chance in following university. Or you can go Mr. Johnston's way, and struggle to do work in University. The choice is yours.

  1. You broke my brain! :)

This is how you broke my brain. I'm trying to understand what you mean by "believing that they can get away with puberty".

You can't "get away with" puberty. It happens. It's a biological fact - no matter how often one begs, pleads, or even yearns for puberty not to happen.

Parents (okay, I speak only for myself) at one point or another looks back nostalgically, and yearns for the days when times were simpler, and that they could make all decisions, and just get away with the explanation of "because I told you to." Now, parents are faced with their children who are hormone-ridden, sometimes rude and often-times moody teens, pondering how to relate. (Okay, just got rid of my Ken Olberman turn of phrase...)

  2. I mean like people using puberty as an excuse not to do their work. And yes, I sometimes do look back nostalgically, before the bullying and the people fooling around in class. I used to feel all people are doing the work but now, it feels like I am doing all the work and the others (most, especially the boys) do not.

  3. Thanks for explaining what you mean by getting away with puberty.

I believe it's about choices. Your peers made one; you made a different one. Each choice has a consequence - be it positive or negative - and how that consequence is perceived is up to the individual.

I understand that it's frustrating to feel like you're the only one doing something. Sometimes, you do feel confused or isolated because you're not doing what everyone else is doing. I think that it is a good thing. "Why?" you may ask. From my own experiences (yes, playing the "Mom is old" card here...), the decisions that you make now reflect the unique, and fascinating, individual you are, and the interesting person you will become. You have a strong sense of self which will serve you well in the long-term (which means, I'm fulfilling my part of the contract being your parent! Whoo!! Go us!).

Remember, you can't control the behaviours and actions of others. You can try to influence, but you can't control that. Others will have to make their own decisions. Just like others can't control what you do or how you behave. You make that choice.
